Affordable housing conversations often focus on the creation of new homes, but as the housing stock ages, preserving existing homes is an essential step to protecting the housing opportunities available to low-wealth households. Without this, historic neighborhoods deteriorate, homeowners are displaced, and the housing crisis expands. In response, Delta DB seeks and manages funding to complete essential home repairs for clients who earn at or below 80% of the area median income. To date, over 125 individual home repairs have been completed including roof replacements, foundation stabilization, and repairing dangerous or broken electrical, plumbing, and heating and cooling systems.

Data and impact analysis of the programs is ongoing. In addition to improving the built environment, these grants result in significant energy cost savings, improved mental health outcomes, and reduced hospital visits for occupants.

Funding for this work comes from  the FHLB Dallas SNAP program,  USDA's Housing Preservation Grant, and a HUD Healthy Homes Production grant. Delta DB also manages donations from private individuals via our non-profit partner, the Greenwood-Leflore Fuller Center for Housing.
