 Leflore Legacy Academy

Client: Leflore Legacy Academy of Greenwood, MS
Type: Educational Facility; Technical Services

Completion Date: 2020

In early 2020, Delta DB provided design and technical services to Leflore Legacy Academy to allow the nascent charter school to obtain necessary permits to do improvements on an existing building and receive approvals to open the new location.  The charter school, founded and led by Tamala Boyd Shaw, operates out of the former education wing of the First Baptist Church (and first home of Delta Streets Academy).

Delta DB sought input from Leflore Legacy staff on their plans for utilizing the building to assess if the building layout and size could suit both their initial and future needs. Delta DB also conducted an analysis to determine what changes and improvements would be required to meet building code regulations in terms of egress, accessibility and fire suppression. The drawings we produced details modifications to the existing restrooms, a new ramp, and equipment such as hardwired exit signage and fire extinguishers.

This scope of work completed for Leflore Legacy Academy is an example of our technical knowledge allowing a project to come to fruition. Minimal design work was needed, but egress and other life safety expertise allowed the school to obtain a permit and take occupancy, and resulting in a building that is safe and accessible for students and staff.
